St. Mary Magdalene Parish Family extends our deepest condolences to you and your family during this difficult time. We understand that planning a funeral for your loved one can oftentimes be overwhelming and emotional. Our parish staff and Bereavement Committees are very experienced and well-equipped to help make the funeral planning process as easy on you and your family as possible.
Please see below for your step-by-step guide in arranging a Mass of Christian Burial within St. Mary Magdalene Family of Parishes.
1. Call the funeral home of your choice.
2. Call the parish office to notify the parish of the death.
If you are calling the parish after hours, there will be an option to leave a message in reporting a death:
St. Andrew Office: (513) 831-3353
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Office: (513) 575-0119
St. Veronica Office: (513) 528-1622
3. Propose a funeral date and time.
The date of the funeral is chosen after discussion with the family, funeral home, church and priest. The funeral home will call the parish to set this up. Once the date has been set, a member of the Bereavement Committee is notified, and will call you to make arrangements concerning the Mass of Christian Burial at the Church.
Due to the challenging schedules of our priests who serve three parishes, funerals are typically celebrated at 10:00 am, or 11:00 am on Saturday.
4. Work with the Bereavement Team to prepare a Mass of Christian Burial/Funeral Liturgy Outside of Mass.
After being in contact with you, a member from the Bereavement Ministry will help you make recommendations for the readings and music for the Mass of Christian Burial/Funeral Outside of Mass. This person will also be the contact person for you if you have any needs, questions or concerns.
We are here to help you through this difficult time.
The time of death of a loved one is our parish's service to you as you grieve.
The Catholic Church gives us a liturgy that is already planned. The preparation for a funeral offers the opportunity for a few options that are listed in the material below.
The funeral liturgy may take place inside or outside of Mass, depending on the pastoral circumstances.
The family of the decedent will always need to meet with the Bereavement Ministry before a funeral takes place.
All of the Biblical readings are listed in the links below.
Musical recommendations are always approved by the Music Director in each respective church, as well as the pastor.
Priest celebrants not assigned to our parishes must contact the pastor prior to approval of funeral plans.
There may be one person to offer "Words of Remembrance" before the Mass begins. It will not exceed four minutes and must be presented in print to the pastor before it is scheduled to take place. The words always take place before the Mass begins, or preferably at the Vigil Service or a luncheon.
The Order of Christian Funerals states that burial of the body or cremated remains takes place immediately following the funeral.
Requests for music, readings and any other plans are presented to the Bereavement Ministry member as recommendations. All final decisions are approved by the pastor.
Please read the Funeral Guidelines listed below, as well as the Scriptural readings before meeting with the Bereavement Ministry.
Know that you, your family and your deceased love one is in our prayers.
